Review on Sling Media SB500 100 Slingbox 500 by Michael Weaver

Doesn't work as advertised. Home TV cannot be transferred to another Internet-enabled TV.

Slingbox ad says "Watch your home TV on any device, anywhere." It's just not true. I wanted my home TV to be available at my hunting/fishing cabin in the National Forest, so I installed internet service at the cabin, bought a Wi-Fi enabled TV, and bought a Slingbox 500. While setting up the Slingbox at home I noticed that I have to buy an HDMI splitter in addition to the Slingbox. No problem, done. After the splitter was installed, I went into the salon to try out my home TV broadcasting through Slingbox. Not correct. There is no app for Internet-enabled TV. The solution offered by Slingbox is to add a Roku device. Ok, no problem again. After connecting the Roku to the TV, I downloaded the SlingPlayer app. Surprisingly, when the app launches, it doesn't give you the option to play the live TV. I then contacted Slingbox support via web chat. I was told the Roku app wasn't actually working and Slingbox engineers were working on it. Unbelievable! Slingbox is a farce. Don't waste your time and money unless you want to watch TV on a 2 inch mobile phone screen. There are other better options for streaming Internet TV. Many cable and satellite TV providers now offer subscription streaming of your show. to try Direct TV Now. Seems to offer great variety at a very modest price.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • I won't say anything
