Review on ✈️ Unlock the Skies: Garmin D2 Air - The Ultimate GPS Smartwatch for Aviators by Gerald Reeves

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Ideal for pilots, athletes or just sport pilots trying to maintain their health.

As a pilot since 2004 I have been wearing another brand that is HEAVY and the E6B is unreadable in flight. But it looks cool! This watch is good with both leather and silicone straps. I prefer silicone. It looks good, the dial mimics an elegant watch and is efficient for pilots, it's light weight, not as big as previous D2s I've looked at and does exactly what I need it to do. Receiving texts, emails and other notifications on the watch with vibration is very useful. I didn't feel my phone vibrate and didn't always hear it (I know my wife said the same thing!). I bought this watch more for the smartwatch features including the pilot gauges like METAR, PulseOx and of course GPS. I don't need the map that the larger D2s have as I fly with my phone (ADSB), iPad (ADSB) and GPS on the panel. I also bought it for heart rate as I get older. Haven't flown with him yet, but have walked, walked and hiked with him. I used my Revain Music connection to download music to the watch and connected a Bluetooth headset to the watch. First time I walked without a phone and it was nice! The GPS worked well. GPS worked intermittently when hiking in wooded and hilly areas, which is to be expected (phone's GPS did the same), but it still seemed to map my entire route. And all activities will sync normally when you get close to the phone again. There were some issues with the 'B' button not working when I tried to update the widgets. It may have needed a system update, which it updated during my first load. I wear it 24/7 and the two times I took it off it has been updated. Since then, "B" has worked flawlessly. Although I prefer updating widgets over the phone. I still have to get used to the sensors, but the body's battery is always empty (even in the morning). I'm not sure if this is due to installation and incorrect readings. He asks me to stay in place at least 1-3 times a day for stress measurements. It also shows more stress than I expected. I liked it! Will update after flight but so far it's been a useful gadget for this sport pilot!
