I finally decided to buy a good quality pillow instead of the cheap fiberfill from the local department store. I have arthritis in my neck. This is definitely enhanced by soft pillows. In order to sleep well, I need to compress the pillow to the right density and angle to support my head properly. This, of course, destroys most polyethylene pads. The down pillows are too soft and I'm mildly allergic to feathers. I bought two of these pillows, one regular and one thin. I like thin ones best. Both pillows compress without harm, meaning I can adjust them to my headrest needs and they always go back to their original size. I prefer the thinner model because it's more comfortable to sleep on; I can also pack it in a suitcase and take it with me when I travel. I recently took this pillow to the tropics for 8 weeks. I can attest that despite the humidity, it was cool and comfortable here. (By "chilly," I don't mean that the pillows are somehow magically cold, just that it doesn't make your head feel like you slept in the oven with them on.) They're washable, which is essential after a trip like that. I have an adjustable bed at home. This pillow is a good companion for him. Instead of two pillows, I just lift the head of the bed. It's also easier on my throat. I didn't notice any chemical smell from this pillow when I first got it, or since. I've had it for over a year now and it's still in perfect condition. One final note I slept on foam pillows which were comfortable but very heavy. These pillows are "fluffy" because they're filled with small pieces of foam, and they're no heavier than a regular pillow. (Of course, they're not as fluffy as feathers, but they're quite comfortable.)
