couldn't weather the storm!

For the first two months, we thought this was normal; the protected light burned, everything stayed in place, life was good. But then we had a storm and the power went off and on pretty quickly, but our gaming system and attached soundbar stopped working. Here you have "protected". We wanted it to be so useful, but it couldn't even withstand a storm!
