Good for travel best for outside

When I had to travel to Mexico for work I decided to buy this filter and a 32 oz filter. bottle of nalgene. I've been to Mexico before and while it's usually pretty easy to buy a couple of bottled water, it's much more convenient to be able to fill it from the tap. In short, this is a great filter. The one-way valve that lets air into the bottle is restrictive, and the filter adds even more restrictions, making it not always easy to drink from. I'd say sort of like drinking a milkshake through a straw, which is certainly acceptable for most people. The only thing stopping me from giving five stars is the plastic taste that came out of the filter on the first few uses. It eventually went away but was very noticeable for a few weeks despite the charcoal filter stage eliminating most sources of bad breath. This is despite the fact that I soaked it in multiple water changes to wash away any residue. I drank Mexican tap water from this filter for a week with no side effects. I've stayed in Mexican hotels that have a "DO NOT DRINK" sign posted right next to the sink. It's a little daunting when trying to brush your teeth. This newest hotel claimed to filter all water, but why take the risk? With this filter I can be pretty confident that the water I get is free of harmful bacteria and I don't have to worry about buying water or getting dehydrated while I'm at work. All in all I can recommend this filter. without booking. Be sure to buy it a few weeks in advance so that the plastic taste dissipates. I also recommend rinsing it several times in fresh water.
