I am a general home mechanic and relatively new to flux cored MIG welding. I recently purchased a Fourney 140 MP welder to replace my old and bulky welder and I am very happy with its performance. I started welding with wire using the recommended Fourney 0.30 flux cored wire which did the job well but after reading some reviews I decided to try this wire for comparison. These days I mostly butt weld 14 gauge PTR steel and when using this yes wire two things immediately struck me. First, the sound this wire makes when it is welded is more of a quieter, constant hiss than the louder spattering sound of Fourney wire. Second, with the exact same voltage and wire speed settings, the Yes wire welds much hotter when placed the same distance from the 1/2"-3/4" contact tip that I used for the Fourney wire and I had to lower the voltage setting. don't burn through the metal. Yes, wire seems to me to have a heavier flux and maybe a softer weld, but it definitely does the job and I like that hiss as it tells me instantly if the quality of my run changes for any reason. I certainly don't shy away from Fourney wire, but I love Yes wire and will be testing it on a number of welds of various gauges to get real work done.
