My Old English Bulldog used to have a sensitive stomach. It was very difficult for us to find food that would strengthen his droppings. Discovering Blue Buffalo Basics was like a gift from the gods. He liked it, he had hard hard chairs and it was a good price. I have done all my research. It got pretty good reviews so I figured that was it. I've been a loyal Blue Ox for 8 years. Until May of this year when my dog ran to my husband and fell to the ground clutching himself in pain. He had a heart attack. This is not normal for my dog breed. Blue Buffalo grain-free dog foods (as well as several other high-quality grain-free dog foods) have now been found to be associated with dilated cardiomyopathy. When we got our big guy the vet detected a heart murmur that hadn't been there a few months ago and he went under so quickly we had to euthanize him a month later. DO NOT BUY GRAIN IF YOUR DOG IS NOT GRAIN ALLERGY. FREE FOOD! I am heartbroken. Basically, I poisoned my dog with the best of intentions. He was otherwise incredibly healthy and we didn't know until it was too late. Please don't make the same mistake we did. Grain-free products are an unnecessary fad.
