Funny protocol, but shoes are definitely required.
You can easily change the configuration of the turtles, including swings and ramps. The wood is a little rough so it helps a lot with traction but it's not great when playing with socks. Took less than 5 minutes to install and I think they make a very nice addition to our playground. I'm pretty sure the squeaky turtle amuses me more than my son. We plan to take it outside when it's not that hot outside. The bars come out quite easily if they move too much.
