I've noticed the ice in my GE fridge is starting to stick together and I'm having trouble getting the ice out of the dispenser. This went on for a while and then other things in the freezer started to freeze over. After some research it turned out that I probably had a dead de-icer. I looked up the part number and got this replacement pretty cheap. Easy DIY steps: 1. Unplug the fridge from the wall or fence and turn off the power2. Remove all items from the freezer, including the ice maker3. There are 2 small screws on the wall just below the ice maker, unscrew them completely4. Same wall, small clip attached to wire, remove from wall5. Pull the wall straight up and tilt it slightly so it doesn't touch the bulb, it will slide down6. You can see the cooling coils and below the defroster that needs to be replaced7. Loosen the 2 screws on the side of the defroster, disconnect the power supply, and then pull out the defroster8. Replacing with a new anti-icing device is done in reverse order. Some additional notes: 1. While you are pulling the fridge out of the case, take the opportunity to clean the floor next to the compressor. Take a light brush and suck up all that junk. Mine hadn't been dusted in so long I finally shoved my fridge in front of the door, grabbed a blower, and blew the apartment up. All the dust just goes outside and not into your house.2. If you are at step 6 and find that all the coils are completely iced up you can wait a few hours for them to thaw OR if like me you are impatient you can use a hair dryer and spend about 20 minutes defrosting them all Wash. ice from them. Make sure there are enough towels at the bottom to soak up the water.3. If your ice sticks together in the fridge, it can't be saved. Just take it outside, take out all the ice pieces and start over.
