I'm allergic to most metals so I usually wear 14k gold. Because it's so expensive, I bought these earrings as an alternative after learning that gold plated (not plated) should last the same as solid gold for at least 5 years. This may be true for some gold-filled items, but not for these earrings. I've been wearing them 24/7 for a few months now and the color has changed from my favorite yellow gold to a dark bronze.
