Review on Mueller Industries 109 814 Float Valves by Dave Hammon

I've been working on a reliable rainwater harvesting system for our house for about a year. I was dissatisfied with the quality and the, in my opinion, overpriced downpipe switchover valves. I find them rather plastic, too complex and unreliable. I wanted to build a better mousetrap and I think I succeeded. I just drilled a hole in the water barrel as close as possible and installed this device with a float and lightbulb. I then made a trap out of 1/2" PVC pieces and then connected the trap to a rain barrel with standard hose. Once the kegs are full the valve closes shutting off flow from the downspout. Has been working since it was installed before one few months perfectly.
