Unfortunately, one of the previous reviewers has a system issue that is causing the speed issues he's encountered. How do I know what you're asking? Okay, the big hit was the fact that my HP laptop and Dell desktop both have USB 3.0 ports that run at USB 2.0 speeds, seriously. PITA why do you paint it blue and/or don't mention it in the specs. so stupid! (No other USB 3.0 drive I plug into these ports runs faster than the 35MB/s 2.0 spec, so this is frustrating, I've tried 13 different devices, and yes, there are no USB 2.0 chips on any motherboard and none in device manager, only 3.0) I've read that some USB 3.0 chipsets have auto-negotiation problems, so of course this could be the problem and not the only fault with this reader/adapter.
