My wife and I live in a very remote Alaskan village that can only be reached by plane. We're always out in the freezing ocean, collecting shells, walking down muddy trails, or braving the elements to eat and play cards with friends. We are in our 30s and always on the go. The problem is we don't have cellular service. We got them a few months ago and apart from a bad battery for one (easy replacement via customer service) they all worked great! They work all over the village and have become our mobile phone in the bush. He has NOAA! A few months ago we had Tusanmi's warning, so we had to flee to the mountains. When the siren sounds, you run. It was almost midnight, very cold, and the children were half-naked, having just been dragged out of bed. The problem was that it was dark so we couldn't see the approaching wave and couldn't tell if the danger had passed. I mean, how long are you going to wait before you get the courage to bring your family back into danger? Luckily I realized I had 9 NOAA stations and we could go home with confidence knowing our families were safe.
