This is an updated radio for me. I had a previous version where everything was the same except for an updated OS and having CarPlay enabled. I had some bugs initially, they sent me new software and everything was great. I knew I was going to use the CarPlay feature, but had no idea I wouldn't be playing around on this stereo with any app other than Poweramp. CarPlay worked flawlessly for me after purchasing the correct charging and data cable. Because the car stereo in CarPlay essentially uses your iPhone as a stereo, it's very fast and responsive. It's not that stereo alone isn't fast, but CarPlay on the iPhone XR is like using a phone. I used Sygic for GPS on my previous device and installed it on this device, but who cares. Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze and more are all available in CarPlay, move faster and update more frequently. In the past, I've consistently skipped my train with Sygic, and when I did, it took what felt like forever in a strange place to get my bearings and get you back where you wanted to be. Basically you ignore the processing and speed of your car stereo and only use your car stereo phone as an extended screen. The sound is great with the new EQ and Poweramp takes advantage of it and produces an excellent sound. Remember, I replaced all the factory speakers in the Harmon Kardon system with speakers that matched the factory amp in size, impedance, and power output, and replaced the standard subwoofer with a single 12-inch RF-enabled subwoofer. So I can't speak. speakers to put with this device. But if you're reading this, maybe it's time to replace those cheap paper cone speakers. The updated UI is fine and makes the car look a lot newer than it is. E46 owners already know that most people cannot tell an e46 from an e90.
