Much better than expected

I was going to buy the Zumo but the design seems a few years old so I went with the Rider 550 despite the lukewarm reviews. Wifi and Bluetooth took a few times to get it right but I managed to do it. I like the well-designed clamping mechanism, good search and routing capabilities, and quick response to redirection. Best of all, I can get scenic routes (along the Pacific Coast Highway) if I want, using the "bicycle route" among many other options. The ride seems like a nice feature, but more…

He has his own opinion!

I really wanted this to work. Looks good, the screen is nice and bright. However, it had one glaring problem. The screen actually responded to my finger BEFORE I touched the display. Once something is within 1/8 inch of the display, it responds as if I've actually made contact. It's useless and disappointing. I don't have much experience with this device. The real problem is the malfunction of the display. And yes, I have the screen sensitivity set to the least sensitive setting. It does not…

something useful doesn't last long

I find myself using this thing less and less. I've only used it as a backup and after traveling around Mexico I don't use it at all. It's outdated and difficult to install even after I bought the lock pack on my Super Tenere bike. It has some software options that make it easier to use, but most of the information is useless and not worth $300 for the device. It's nothing more than a backup at best, and an expensive paperweight at worst. After 8 months of ownership, the screen detached from the

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT

Without a doubt one of the most user friendly POS I have ever bought. Tried one day. Wanted to plan a route to one of my places. Couldn't do it, not even an option. I had to enter the address or forgot. A connection to the computer could not be established. Tomtom said I have to use Wi-Fi but after trying to connect to the device, Tomtom My Drive and TomTom Connect (why does it need three programs?) I was told I had to use a different Wi-Fi connection would have to use. The? Do I have to go to…

Great option for MC-GPS

I've been using Rider 550 for 3 months and I really like it. It's clear, concise, and has a surprising amount of features when functionality is built into it. The ability to create thrill routes works really well and gives great results. The UI takes some getting used to and I could have laid out the menu differently for me), but that's not a major downside. Bluetooth and WIFI work well and the cloud functionality is impressive. It's very easy to plan a route on your mobile or desktop computer…

I really liked it but there are major cons

I needed GPS on my motorbike as I didn't want to rely on my phone for navigation anymore. I took this device to see if it would suit my needs. It was really close but had a huge negative so I brought it back. Here is my review. Good first. The device is well thought out and easy to use. Uses WiFi to update and send routes from a computer. Uses a great RAM mounting system that I have already used on my bike. Had a lot of power on the AUX jack. The user interface is easy to use with a glove and…

Doesn't work with iPhone

First of all, I like that this screen is very clear, like a phone screen, but it's very delicate. Oddly enough because you don't even have to touch it and it will make decisions that can be annoying. I love that there is a portrait mode so it's cool and the mount is very nice, it's set up so you don't have to cover the ports when the device isn't on the mount. Conveniently, as you drive, it shows gas stations on the map and gas stations in a specific area of your route in a general side view…

Doesn't live up to the hype - send it back

I'm a sport touring rider with 35 years of experience and also an experienced software developer. But enough about me, let's talk about the TomTom Rider 550. Summary: Very disappointed and sent back. I have many years of experience testing and evaluating the software I used to evaluate this GPS. I wrote down a few simple use cases (features) to evaluate, which I prioritized and rated, e.g. Here are some use cases where this has failed. cancel route. I could never figure out how to cancel a…

Do not do that! Compatible with GPS devices

. This is not a user-friendly product. You need to be connected to Tomtom "MyDrive", Bluetooth to your headset and mobile phone at the same time, and to receive traffic Tomtom needs to be paired to your phone like a mobile phone. 550 FULL error. From time to time it hangs on you for no reason, turn it off and on again and it starts up again normally. Your phone text coming through Tomtom is sporadic at best. You can't use Siri if the tom-tom is connected to everyone (at least to me). It's…

Cons
  • . Very expensive.

In terms of hardware and functionality, this is a very good product that appears to be reliable and of high quality. ****UPDATE: Everything here is from my original review and I stand by it. After studying a very long manual, I have already found out a lot. This is a very good GPS unit and I would highly recommend it and would buy it again. But I still keep this 4-star rating for the reasons mentioned. The manual is huge for a reason - the 550 can do a lot of different things, is versatile and…
