good starter kit

I actually got full bang for my buck before any reviews appeared. I've been doing a lot of jewelry lately and I've had some issues. Close jump rings with one of these ring tools. So I went in search of new needle nose pliers (round nose pliers or a chain would be fine). I saw this set for a little more than a pair of pliers so I decided to buy it. I'm unlikely to use a bead shovel, needle, or awl (although one should never say never). I'm also unlikely to use tweezers, although lately I've been thinking about making a few things with flat-backed rhinestones so they might come in handy. I picked up a few random items around the house and they seemed to be of acceptable quality. A caliper will certainly come in handy. I get a lot of bead subscription boxes and sometimes they come with random round beads with no size specification. But if I need to know what size bead cap to order, for example, I can use vernier calipers. It's not the fanciest caliper I've ever used (say, from a college physics lab) but it's functional and of course lets me know if I have a 6mm or 8mm shoulder, for example. The wire cutters were a pleasant surprise. I don't really need them as I have several other pairs but I've tried them on a few stilettos and they are definitely sharper than my very old pair. (I don't use them to cut the memory wire; I have a special tool for that.) It's good to have a second set. Love the round nose pliers and hook nose pliers for tying the ends of closed jumper rings together a little more. Needle nose pliers are also good for grinding the ends of memory wires or eyelet pins/bolts. (I was particularly pleased with the memory wire; I sometimes have trouble looping the ends of this material.) Other pliers haven't found much use yet, but I've been working with wire and chain a lot lately that it's good is she to have. around. The case is nice too. It's actually easy to put things back in and close. I am considering throwing in my zip tie sealing tools as well as they are small and will do. And then, when I clean everything up, I always find my tools again. Some tools that I think are essential for beadwork and are not included in the kit: sink (for a small chain) and a pair of scissors. I also use a crimping tool and memory wire cutter, which aren't included in the kit, but they're a little more specialized and you *can* cut the memory wire with regular wire cutters, it's a little trickier. I think the quality of the items is okay. There was no rust anywhere and nothing smelled like plastic or chemicals, so those were big pluses. I have fairly small hands, but I've found the handles of pliers, wire cutters, etc. to be easy to grab and manipulate. They didn't fall into my hands. However, they are definitely not of the highest quality compared to, for example, my side cutters which cost over 25% of the price of this entire set. In the end, it's definitely worth it for beginners who want to build a collection of tools or for people. like me who works more with chain and wire. As you progress you may find you want to upgrade to something higher quality, but I am happy with my purchase and will make the same decision again.
