Review on Enhance Aquarium Filtration with XINYOU XY-2822 Air Pump Double Sponge Water Filter by Candy Malone

So I've heard a lot about sponge filters but I really DID NOT UNDERSTAND what they are, how they work, how to install them etc. So I read the reviews and decided it was, guess I size that should work for my tanks is 20G or 40G. I received the package and of course it's all terribly translated into English. No instructions on how to set it up, what to go where etc. I think it deserves 4 stars on that basis. But let's get to the heart of why 5 stars. First, the reviews suggested I would need to purchase an air hose. So connecting the air hose was frankly a hassle, but the hose needs to be securely attached. After struggling with the hose for a few minutes, I managed to connect it. I wasn't sure which path was correct, so I placed them in the tank in the order shown in the picture. It was the right way. However, I had no idea how this was supposed to work. I fill the tank with water and turn on the air pump - that's when the magic happens. So, for those who don't know ANYTHING about these things, next to a giant transparent tube, there is a small air tube. Air is forced into this tiny tube. This creates a vacuum effect where the air sucks the water in the tank through the sponges into a large transparent tube. The now filtered water is thrown back into the tank together with air bubbles from the air hose. Extremely excellent water filtration, water aeration and money saving as there is no need to buy filter cartridges - just grab sponges and rinse them (with water in the tank) from time to time. And since there are TWO sponges, you can take turns cleaning them to prevent the aquarium environment from changing too much. I really wish I had known about this type of filtering before spending all that money I've spent on the filters you find at most pet stores. Pooh!
