Sometime in the mid 2000s Sony changed the remote control codes; so older remotes don't really work on newer devices, except maybe the power button. If you need a spare remote, this will do; It would be functionally ideal if it exactly replaced the Remote model. In my case, however, it was not an exact replacement for the deleted model. My receiver is STR-DA5400ES; While waiting for a suitable replacement remote to arrive (2-4 weeks at the moment) I purchased this remote (at around $9) for temporary use and received it quickly through Revain. great work as always. The main feature I needed was being able to bring up the receiver's settings menu and this remote does just that. The "HOME" button is the "GUI Mode" button which is key for this series of Sony ES- receivers is; Without access to the GUI mode (this can only be done via the remote control) there is literally no way to configure the receiver or change settings as needed. If it had an "HDMI" input button, it would be a very good long-term replacement for Sony's ES series receivers; However, this is not the case. Considering the low price, it's worth having "GUI Mode" as a backup remote. For long term use, a more compatible (i.e. more features than the original) or original replacement will work for my receiver. For other recipients, it may have a larger set of applicable keys. This is a copy of the original Sony RM-AAU170 remote control; it looks identical without the Sony logo. It seems to work. The only downside and the reason I took a star off the rating is the build quality. Although not bad, spec. Considering the low price, it is somewhat inferior to the original Sony remote controls. Also, the device I received had a few fuzzy spots around the edge. This is a brand new remote control; My only guess is that it might have been caused by the tight plastic packaging depending on how long it was in that tight packaging. Maybe a looser plastic wrap wouldn't have left those marks. This is the only thing that somewhat distracts from the device. Considering the low cost and the fact that this remote actually works, although in my case it's a subset of functions, it's worth considering to save you the embarrassment of having to get into your receiver's menu system. The correct remote control for my receiver is RM-AAL013; So in case you're wondering, this remote control should work with receivers that have the "RM-AALxxx" remote control series, where xxx = a three-digit number. So if, like me, you need a remote to get you out of a tight spot (waiting for a suitable replacement remote to arrive) and you have it as a backup for menu access in the long run, then see if it will see if it works with your receiver and try it. I paid $9 for it; I've seen it go at other places more than twice. While it satisfies my current needs, I wouldn't want to overpay for it; something to consider. It does the job.
