Review on 🚪 Petmate Compass Plastic Pet Kennel featuring a Sleek Chrome Door by Casey Frazier

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Pretty good, except the gate can sag outward leaving a runaway dog and cocoa powder all over my floor.

Before I describe this box, let me give you some information. My dog is an escape master. A cross between a Labrador Collie and a Border Collie with too much energy and brains for their own good. We kept them in the yard when we were at work. She found weak spots in the fence. We patched her up and she started climbing (not jumping) the 8ft fence. We have a collapsible wire box to keep them indoors. She figured out how to release the latches from the inside. We locked the latches, she figured out how to fold the back of the box. We sewed all the corners and seams, she bit through the snaps on the snaps and then undid the snaps. We added locking carabiners to the latches and that kept her from about half the time if we were careful to position her so she couldn't twist the carabiner to disengage the clasp. That's when we bought this box (70-90 pound version). We thought a box with thicker walls would fit her a little better and maybe be more comforting. That worked for a good 6 months. She didn't try to escape and we gave her treats when she went in her cage to keep her happy inside. Then we ran out of goodies, and for several days it was not possible to buy new ones. She got bored and tried to run away, and over the course of a few days she realized that if she pushed the gate hard enough, she would jump off the tracks and be free. Now we need to attach a heavy object (the side table) to the gate so she doesn't open it. The 70-90 lb version can flex to the point of failure. I hope the older versions don't have this problem.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
