Some very fine antique silver plates have been hand chiselled or engraved after the piece was originally gilded. This is a very important possibility when dealing with old Sheffield and early Victorian plates from around 1850 to 1875 when the highest quality silver, if any, was expected anywhere. Items degrade so much that the base metal begins to show through them. Such parts are often still usable, but color differences can be annoying. Of course, most old products can be completely covered with a new coating, but only at a prohibitive price. The solution does not contain enough chemical silver to work well in large areas of silver loss. Curbs, for example, are the first places of wear. This solution is often powerful enough to hide this type of problem. With regular use, no further polishing is required. Note. This solution will not work on objects other than those made of a hard base metal such as copper, brass, or nickel silver. With this in mind, it must be said that most products that are "four-tier plates" are unlikely to produce effective results with this product.
