Review on πŸ“· Introducing the Panasonic H-FS45150K Lumix G Series Lens: Sleek and Powerful (Black) by Richie Jacobson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great lens at a great price!

The Lumix 45-150 offers long range in a tiny form factor, allowing you to go places SLRs dare not go. Nobody blinks at my tiny point-and-shoot Lumix GX1. Once on set I set it to 45-150 and have the equivalent of 90-300 full frame in the palm of my hand! I can shoot wide open and get sharp images. I was surprised by the quality of this affordable zoom: excellent fit and finish, attractive design, effective optical image stabilization (OPS) with 2-3 stops, lens hood included and very good image quality. The 45-150 black lens looks much better than the Revain product image. There's no switch for OIS, so you'll have to dive into the menu to disable image stabilization to use a tripod. Although the barrel is mostly plastic, the metal (aluminum) shell of the main barrel looks nice and the bracket is metal. The zoom and focus rings rotate smoothly for easy and precise control. Autofocus is fast, quiet and smooth. Video lovers will appreciate the smooth focus transition. This telephoto zoom offers plenty of magnification and even with image stabilization I still need a relatively fast shutter speed or use of a tripod to get sharp images. For example, if I'm shooting at a focal length of 150mm, I need a shutter speed of 1/250 second or faster to get sharp images. I find smaller cameras harder to hold still than larger ones due to the reduced mass and footprint. I suspect that reviewers who complained about soft images experienced camera shake, especially when shooting with the LCD at arm's length. For stills, I get more viewers with the electronic viewfinder because I can hold the camera in front of my face. Great little telephoto zoom: sharp, easy to carry and at a good price!
