My old mat is dark gray with orange mesh and numbers. It's also not double-sided. This rug is light gray in color with red mesh and black and red markings. The numbers are red. This rug is double sided. It has 45 to 90 degree markings on one side with a 1 inch block grid. The other side of this rug also features a 1 inch block grid. But it also has longitudinal fiber mark, transverse fiber mark, shift mark and true shift mark. In my opinion, those extra markings are a bonus, especially if you need to cut out a piece of clothing. This carpet is thicker than my old carpet. I've used it to cut fabric a few times and can't find my cuts either. There are no raised cut lines here like there was on my old carpet. This is a great rug!
