Used these when I needed to adjust a curtain rod so high that I (I'm short) couldn't reach it. This meant that if I simply threaded the pole through the curtain's shell, which was tight enough, I couldn't slide the pole back over the pole. Holding the curtain is not a problem, the curtains can be pulled over the window and pushed aside without resistance.
