Almost perfect - your drain pump fails, you need a spare

I am very happy with this system, it is very easy to install and offers more control than other systems I have tested. I really like the color coded connectors for connecting a backup pump and two float switches. This makes setup quick, easy, and reliable. The WiFi setup was a bit slow to connect, but once connected it works fine. I also like that the main pump is powered by the PumpSpy controller. This allows the controller to partially control the main pump. It can determine if the main pump is drawing too much current, indicating a stuck or partially stuck impeller. It also controls the main cycles of the pump. This means that if the backup battery float switch is activated and the main pump is not drawing power, the main pump has failed. The on/off switch points of the standby pump are very close together. The pump will run for 10 seconds or until the switch is activated. Because the on/off switch points are close together, the standby pump cycle time is 10 seconds in most cases. A complete system failure or excessive water inrush is indicated when the second float switch is actuated. The backup storage pump is tested every other day to ensure it is working, which allows an alert of a backup pump failure to be issued before it is needed. The main pump cannot be tested in this way as its float switch matches the pump performance. If the main pump and its switch were wired separately to the controller this would allow regular checking of the main pump as well as the standby pump. To do this, PumpSpy must power both the primary and standby pumps, as most sump pumps have a built-in float switch. As before, the failure of the main pump is only signaled by the activation of the float switch of the reserve pump. Disconnecting the main pump float switch adds an extra layer of protection to an already fairly complete control system. I still give it 5 stars because I think it still offers more monitoring features than competing products. Update: Installed in August, four months later when my main drain pump was first needed it failed. It ran several times and then failed. It was an old pump and Pump Spy texted me that it had failed and taken over the backup. Without Pump Spy, I wouldn't know until the basement flooded and then panic mode was triggered. Don't worry, Pump Spy's backup pump got the job done and I replaced the main pump when it was convenient for me. Your drain pump fails, the only question is when. With this system you don't have to worry!
