I bought this in November 2016 so I've owned it for about a year and a half. A few months ago it stopped connecting well to the base and the light was the only way to know if it was heating up or not. At this point I have to stand in the kitchen and periodically shake the pot to get the water to boil because it keeps shutting off. If I wanted to watch the water boil, I just put the pot on the stove. I've tried cleaning the contacts and flexing the spring contact to improve contact but nothing seems to work. I'm assuming there's a loose wire in the base or pot, and I wasn't inclined to open it up to find out why it wasn't getting reliable power either. I will repeat the person who described the shape between the plastic base and the glass. It is clearly visible through the bottom of the glass. I know it doesn't come in contact with water so it's unsightly but not dangerous but gross nonetheless. Overall the pot is cute and I like the glass jug and lighted water but I expect more than a year and a half from it. device, and the mold is just disgusting. I change the pot.
