Review on πŸ”’ Chamberlain Group CWA2000 Chamberlain Driveway Alert: Enhanced Security in Sleek Black Design by Chris Wheeler

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Mount it a foot up and point towards the exhaust pipes. this will work almost perfectly!

Long and short: Mount it a foot off the ground and line it up with the exhaust pipes and it works almost 100% of the time, regardless of temperature or weather. Chamberlain's printed instructions require you to install this sensor four feet off the ground to point at the hood of vehicles. However, when following Chamberlain's directions, our detection rates were around 50% to 60% while skipping lower cars. On rainy or cold days, the detection rate for each vehicle was close to 0%. We wanted to send the sensor back. However, we took another reviewer's suggestion here, lifted it a foot off the ground and aimed it at the exhaust pipes and found it flawless! It used to not detect cold or rainy days, but now it detects rain, sun or cold weather. The size of the vehicle no longer plays a role either, since vehicles of all sizes can now be recognized. Chamberlain really needs to update their printed instructions to reflect this improved detection method, as their four-foot method just doesn't work, leading to many product returns and dissatisfied customers. It was supposed to be a five star product, but until Chamberlain updates his policy we can only give it four stars. The AA batteries were recently replaced. In January 2018, due to several days of freezing temperatures and weakened batteries, the detection rate dropped significantly, but a new battery pack brought it back to full performance and stability. If you need something reliable and durable with minimal maintenance, this sensor is still a good choice. Two years on four AA batteries is great! Update 10/23/2019: After a cold front passed which caused the sensor to no longer detect the sensor, it is time to replace the batteries a second time. The internal components of the sensor begin to age. After a very hot and humid summer, the battery pack deforms, causing the batteries and contacts to become loose. Also, some of the battery coils are slightly rusted, and one coil appears to have burned out. I scraped some of the burned debris off the coil, tried to bend the battery pack into shape, and wrapped the battery pack in duct tape to secure the batteries inside. After playing around with it, the sensor started working again. The sensor is approaching its fourth birthday and, despite battery wear, is still performing very well and is still worth buying in 2019. Sensor batteries for the third time. After a couple of heavy rains, the sensor started sending a low battery signal. It took three to four weeks of low battery before the batteries completely died. Although the battery and case were wet, the packing tape I wrapped around the battery prevented further warping and corrosion. With a fresh set of batteries and new packing tape, the sensor seems to be working again. I liked this sensor so much that I bought two more sensors earlier this year, although I have only configured one of them so far. Overall I would recommend this product to anyone who has a long drive or needs to keep an eye on traffic in your area.
