Review on Astro Pneumatic Tool PR14 Riveter by Steven Ali

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Simply amazing tool

I had a project to install nearly 200 1/8" x 1/2" steel rivets. Most of this work was at the very top end of my reach. A manual rivet gun would be almost impossible to use. This thing worked right out of the box. Unlike some of the cheaper versions, this version did not require hydraulic oil to be added prior to use. All I had to do was screw in a quick coupler, put a few drops of tool oil on it, and voila. Because the rivets were so long I had to turn the tool twice on each rivet, nothing to complain about at all as it's just a matter of pulling the handle. I only mentioned it to let others know that each hit is a short press. I've used this from every angle and it worked flawlessly every time. It should be noted that the mandrel is discharged by gravity, which means the gun must be turned upside down after each rivet pull. It became a very easy habit and quickly became second nature. The plastic cup that catches the used mandrels can take a beating. I completed my entire project (nearly 200 rivets) without emptying the bin. I used a working pressure of 120psi and ran my 5 gallon compressor very little to get the job done. The tool seems strong and durable, there's nothing bureaucratic about it. As other reviewers point out, the rotating air port may be necessary when working in tight spaces. That wasn't a problem for my project.
