Review on Bilstein 24 009294 Suspension Kit by Doug Ellingson

Significant lack of rebound damping

The saddest Bilstein shocks I've ever experienced. As a long-time motorcycle and sports car enthusiast, I know exactly what a suspension should and shouldn't do. These shocks have a MAJOR lack of rebound damping, they feel like they've clocked up 300,000 miles and they don't control the car at all. A 1992 production Caprice station wagon would require re-venting to increase rebound damping by about 30-40%. I don't load my car, it's commuter, it always stays clean and empty except for the tank. While these shocks might be fine on a sedan with 140-160 lb/in springs, the wagon has 211 lb/in. rear springs, and those shocks are understeer despite claims that they are "stiff" and/or "performance-oriented." Don't believe the hype on the forums, they will need a revalve to match the feel of their Bilstein front shocks on the van. However, the compression damping is almost perfect.
