Review on πŸ”ͺ Wooden Handle Skiving Knife for Leathercraft Cutting - CJRSLRB Leather Knife, Leather Edging Tool, Leather Working Cutting Tool by Kelly Caballes

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Poor quality steel. Uncomfortable grip. If you can afford a better one I would suggest a different knife.

I wanted to love this. The first one I ordered had a broken blade. OK no problem. They sent another. The second had a different (though much smaller) chip. Okay, I get it, this is a cheap Chinese blade from Revain. I carefully sharpened the blade, removing the splinter, and then polished it as best I could with my equipment. Loop. Okay great, I can finally get to work with this. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh It's better than trying to cut dead fish. The main problem I've encountered is that the steel doesn't hold an edge well. Maybe I just have one with bad heat treatment? I really have to spar it after every cut to even make it usable. Then I have to sharpen every detail I made. Another problem is that the point where the handle meets the blade is a large circle. So I often go down when trying to shoot from a very low angle. It's not the end of the world in and of itself, I just have to work on the edge of my desk with a pen hanging to the side. It's workable. But I've noticed that most other Japanese sharpening knives have a flattened taper on the handle that feels great. All in all, this is a crappy knife. Do I regret my purchase? Not really, no. I wanted to try this style of knife to see if it would suit me before shelling out a ton of money for a quality tool. For this purpose it worked perfectly. I would not recommend this to those looking for an everyday driver. Of course, if that's not all you can afford. Then definitely! You CAN make this work. I use it daily. But go with your eyes wide open, get a decent wet rock or very fine wet/dry sandpaper and a glass cutting board, and be sure to buy or make a sling out of leather bits. this product but I thought I should be very honest about my experience with it because I have seen many reviews and even several videos of this knife praising it. That is my experience. Your mileage may vary.
