Register your collar on dogtra.com first! In the fine print of their warranty information, they state that you must register the device within 30 days of purchase to qualify for their warranty. If you miss this deadline like I did, make sure you have proof of purchase. I ordered this collar for my 1.5 year old mixed breed dog. She is very excitable, distractible and stubborn and this collar changed everything for her. Just for reference, she weighs around 36 pounds with fairly thin fur and her working level ranges from 4 to 12 depending on how distracting the environment is. I've strictly followed dog trainer Larry Kron's book Everything You Need to Know About E-Collar Training (I highly recommend reading that book before you start collaring!) and watched his YouTube videos viewed. I've also learned a lot from watching YouTube videos made by the Upstate Canine Academy. Their philosophies and learning styles are very similar, and both use eclar primarily as a means of communication rather than just correction. I was following her plans very slowly and saw amazing results with my bitch in just the first 2 weeks of training with her. ! If you are not comfortable using this collar with your human skills, seek professional help from a trusted dog trainer in your area. Or Tom Davis from the Northern States Kennel Academy offers support for online learning via Skype. !The only reason I gave this collar 4 stars is that after less than 2 months it stopped working. The lower steam levels no longer worked. When I first received the collar after testing it on my wrist I started feeling it at around a size 18-20. When it stopped working I could barely feel it at 50. I called their customer service and they sent me a tag free of charge to send the collar in for inspection and service. As I live in Illinois it took them about 12 days to receive the collar in California and then another 8 days to wait and ship it back. I should receive it in about a week. I'm very happy they were able to fix it for free even though I didn't sign up 30 days after purchase even though I still had proof of purchase. It was very frustrating to interrupt our training for such a long break, about a month, but overall I am very happy with this collar and the freedom it has given my dog. Battery life was good, I can get around 3 days of use between charges if I unplug the collar and remote when not in use.
