Review on Bilstein 24 186049 Monotube Shock Absorber by Dan Tsourvakas

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfect deal and setup for a 2003 Toyota 4Runner Sports Edition!

Purchased 2x 24-186049 (rear) from Eddie's and 2x 24-188401 (front) from Revain. Eddie's was delivered on time, neatly packaged and everything was exactly as expected. Revain supplied two front shocks in separate packages; one was correct and the other was an incorrect part number with no retail packaging; I trade now. I installed the rear shocks to replace the stock shocks on my 2003 4Runner Sports Edition. The Sports Edition features X-REAS, which is disabled if you change the shocks to the Bilstein 4600 series. An additional hydraulic line is connected to each of the four shock absorbers, which is disconnected and emptied. This week I plan to install the front shock absorbers and evaluate the function of the entire system. At this point, the rear shocks feel much more stable without excessive NVH (noise, vibration, harshness). Note that these shocks do not have a ride height adjuster (should be on the 5100 series).

Pros
  • The Cardone FLASH2 Reprogrammer is relatively easy to use. The programmer plugs into your vehicle's ECU connector, which is often located under the dashboard. The other end of the programmer connects to a standard computer with a USB connector. Running the provided software and receiving updates from OEM vendors will update your vehicle's ECU. The whole process takes about 30 minutes.
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
