They don't look like the usual "clown shoes" bowling shoes. You know them - red and blue patchwork, shiny black, almost real but very plain leather, all white tennis shoes. No, they (especially the black and white variant) actually look like regular sneakers. The heel definitely catches the heel first, so you may need to balance slightly forward on the balls of your feet and raise the heel slightly for the first pair. Games to break them. By the time I was about game 6 the heel had worn down and the grip was natural again. I have two very minor criticisms. 1: The laces are a bit long, so you may need to double knot them to secure them. 2: (and this is very minor) I'm used to lacing shoes at the bottom and pulling them out through the hole. My boots were laced through holes. Maybe it was just my couple was different. In any case, this can easily be changed.
