Simply snap off the tiny tip with a pair of pliers and place it next to the solder joint. Apply some heat from the soldering iron and remove the device from the board. The only complaint I have is about the cleaning. I couldn't remove the sticking metal material from some SMT devices and had trouble completely removing it from the pads with a wire wick and 91% isopropyl alcohol. It was probably a lack of skill on my part so I'll try to get better at that part of the process, just wanted to mention it so newbies (like me) are aware.
