This product has been a staple among car enthusiasts and car enthusiasts for many years. It has survived thanks to word of mouth solely because of its reputation for shine, suppleness and durability. As new waxes, sealants and coatings hit the market with massive media hype, Collinite 845 continues to benefit from a cult following such as a smoke-free and mirror-free pursuit. Look at the bottle and you won't be blinded by the graphic design. Smell the product and you won't smell any rare tropical fruits. In fact, the label on the bottle is one color (red) and the wax smells like a solvent from a chemical plant. What really matters is how it works. That means business, and in the end you will be rewarded with brilliance, sleekness and wealth. This product has been a dependable winter wax for enthusiasts in the North East to weather the harsh winter months. The company is headquartered in upstate New York, so they know a thing or two about winter. Expect a shelf life of 4-6 months. For best results, ensure paint is properly prepared by rinsing, decontaminating, stripping and buffing as needed. The better the paint is prepared, the better the end result. This applies to all types of wax, sealants and coatings. When you first receive 845, the wax separates from the solvent. You need to put the bottle in warm water to melt the wax. When the wax has melted, shake the bottle vigorously to mix the wax with the solvent. Now it's ready to use. Mist the microfiber applicator with a touch of Quick Detail Spray to prime the applicator. Now dab the applicator twice by placing the applicator over the neck of the vial and turning the vial upside down. DO NOT pour the product on the pad, it's too much. Fold the microfiber pad over to get the product inside the pad. Now insert the product into the plate either in a circle or in the form of cross-shaped strokes. You should only see a very thin film of oil (very thin) and there should be enough product on the applicator to cover the entire panel. Switch to another panel and follow the same steps. Once you're done with the second bar, you can go back to the first bar and polish it. I spritz a microfiber cloth with a sip of Quick Detail to get rid of the raised dots. If you wait too long to polish, it will become more difficult to polish the wax to a mirror finish, resulting in burrs. A bottle will last a lifetime as very little product is used to polish a car. If you want to apply a second coat, wait 12-24 hours to allow the wax to set. WARNING: About a week after application you may notice loss of gloss, cloudiness or streaks. Neophytes before 845 will think they received a bad batch of wax and throw the bottle away. This is because the solvents "sweat" out of the wax on the hotplate. This is usually due to heavy application (hence my obsessive telling of the amount applied to the applicator) and improper buffing of the protrusions. Avoid the temptation to dry the polish as this will ruin the colour. Car wash to restore shine and remove extra solvents and loose wax. Collinite 845 works well with sealers as a topper (wax is applied to cured sealer). Sealers are generally more durable than waxes and adding 845 to a sealer will increase the sealer's durability. Sealers also add a plastic shine, and 845 gives the color saturation that sealer lacks. Collinite has historically been combined with Jescar Powerlock Plus and Wolfgang's Deep Gloss Paint Sealant. Overall, the Collinite 845 shines in its weight class. In terms of its properties, it is in no way inferior to the concours boutique waxes without price and in terms of durability it approaches the strength of a sealant. If you can handle its whimsicality, you'll be rewarded with a shine that can't be reproduced with any other product.
