Review on Canbus Parking Signal Built Resistors by Jerry Moody

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fixed a known issue on my 2002 Focus wagon and it looks great!

I bought several of these out of necessity. I have a 2002 Ford Focus station wagon and for some reason Ford designed the plastic of the tail light assemblies so that it couldn't handle the heat of a standard incandescent bulb over the years. The back of the housing, which contains the 3157 screw-in sockets, as well as the sockets themselves, melts, deforms, and fuses together. It's such a pain. The last time I changed the lamp I had to break something so the socket never stayed in the position it was supposed to be. I shorted the jacks with a mechanical wire. Well, they still moved a bit, and sometimes if I hit a bump or closed the sunroof too hard, it broke the bulb or the filament inside the bulb. I was fed up with eating through the bulbs, so I rushed out to get new taillights and an LED bulb change. They are PERFECT for semi-universal rubber bushings. They also generate some of the heat of the 3157 bulb, even the resistor case only gets slightly warmer! (I have a theory that the resistor is only connected to the turn signal circuit, so probably only receives power and therefore heats up when the turn signal is on). Also, man, these things are bright! If I get a heck with these things instead of brake lights, I get angry. I also like that the Hyperflare terminator is wired right out of the box and I don't have to try to solder it myself. Can't comment on durability but they seem very well made and given the lack of heat build up I think they will last quite a while. I am currently considering a mod where I will replace the grille with amber front turn signal lenses for a second one with clear lenses and buy 3157 "switches" from the same company which are white when on, very similar to these LED ones Daytime running lights are so popular on new cars and then flash amber when I turn on the turn signals.

Pros
  • Advantage: Polarity free design, compatible with CK/SRCK socket and standard socket.
Cons
  • Reliability
