Review on Sony A6000 Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera: SELP1650 Lens Kit - Black (24.3MP) - Ultimate Photography Experience by Michael Baek ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not my best purchase, could have found something else.

My first camera. Satisfied, but over the years its level has outgrown. Now I gave it to my friends, I took the 6300 instead, and now the A7III full frame. Sony is a hero in my eyes: they have taken major engineering steps in the development of digital photography. If you have money: I would recommend taking the 6400 right away, this is an almost perfect camera, except perhaps without stabilization. Against its background, 6000 looks damp. Perhaps you should take a look at the 6100. The 6100 has better focusing, a touchscreen and a swivel screen, a minijack input for a microphone, and 4K video - but, alas, it is also in a different price segment. For this, ~40 for a new one, ~25 for a used one - a very good camera.

Pros
  • An entry-level camera, I have been using it since 2022 for both photos and videos. - Lightweight and compact - Works well in auto mode - Interchangeable lenses: you can start collecting, and then upgrade to an older model -What-no built-in flash - In low light it shoots decently - up to 1600-2022 iso - Ability to upload pictures and even videos to your phone and immediately upload them to social networks - Good autofocus system. There is even autofocus on the eyes and a good follower. - Matrix as in older models in terms of resolution: 6000x4000 pixels maximum - Excellent picture with good lenses. My set: Sigma 56 1.4 (portrait, good in the picture, but autofocus junk), Samyang 12 2.0 (manual, landscape, astrophoto), Zeiss 16-70 4.0 (zoom, does not fully justify its price, a little dark) - Reliable. For 4 years, almost only rubbed slightly, but did not lose fighting qualities. He was with him in the desert, and in frost around -30, and on the beach - he lives. - With a Samyang lens - excellent astrophotos. I caught both meteors and northern lights, everything is super. A good camera for a beginner, although older models: 6400 and maybe 6100 are noticeably better. The low rating is only because of this - in comparison with older models, the shortcomings of this one are visible.
Cons
  • - No microphone input. For the sake of better sound from the camera, I took the on-camera from Sony on a hot shoe, there are no other options - No headphone output - Overheating. When you try to write hour-two-hour concerts and performances, this is a real problem, in the middle the camera will die from heat and stop working. Already the 6300 has practically no such problem. At the same time, recommendations: move the screen away from the body when shooting video, switch the camera to airplane mode, use a cage (for rigging videographers) for heat dissipation. So it lives a little longer, but still you can’t count on long continuous video shooting (two-hour concert). - In mp4 mode, a small selection of shooting options - you can’t post a video without distortion on Instagram stories, because there is no standard 16:9. Other camera video codecs do not have such a problem, but they already require post-processing in DaVinci Resolve / Premiere, and sometimes you want to throw the video directly to the social network You can embed video directly from the camera into an Instagram post, but for the sake of Instagram stories, you will have to get confused. - The screen is not touch. Doesn't rotate 180 degrees - Dust on the matrix - yes, there is a problem. I always go with a pear, blow off dust particles. - The battery drains quickly. I wore 3-4 pieces on trips, if you need to write a video for 2 hours, you need to have a spare one. - No slowmo, no S Log mode for video. - Timelapse - in a separate application - Whale 16-50 is so-so. It is better to immediately look at prime from Sigma, Samyang or zoom from Tamron. But when buying external lenses, you need to understand that the picture will be good, but the proprietary autofocus only works with Sony lenses, you may overpay for Zeiss because of this.
