Don't be fooled, a short antenna doesn't work as well as a long one. I've bought three different models over the years and they all work the same whether they're rubber or just metal. They definitely don't work as well as a long antenna. However, this is a good antenna. I prefer it to a short plain metal antenna because I'm afraid someone will poke an eye while washing the car. I have a mustang and when washing/polishing the hood this antenna comes almost at eye level when you bend at the waist.
