THE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS IS ALMOST INACCEPTABLE! Read it first!

This product is a valuable product of good quality. I also found that this is the ONLY backrest that can be mounted on the Vulcan S with Kawasaki factory saddlebags. If you have factory saddlebags, this product is a great option. HOWEVER -- The instructions are useless. They are just an exploded assembly and do not show which screws go where (they are different lengths). So the reviewer installed a longer bolt instead of a shorter bolt, and when the passenger got on his bike. (Suspension compression) The bolt hit the rear wheel! Also, the inspection holes are in different locations in the exploded view than on the real parts. So you need to figure out how each of the holes is aligned. ANSWER: The luggage rack fits "in" the backrest and both fit into the main brackets, both aligned with the bottom two holes in the main brackets (see image). Remove the saddlebags to attach the main mounts to the bike. , then remove the saddlebag hangers (using two large screws), then remove the plastic pad (remove the two screws holding it in place and press on the front of the bike to slide it off). Then you need to remove the metal bracket that is already there and replace it with the backrest brackets. The backrest bracket has the same hole pattern as the part you are removing. You will need to reattach the plastic piece and reinstall the two screws (without tightening them) and then wiggle them to reinstall the saddlebag brackets through the large holes. I first installed the brackets very loosely, then added the backrest and uprights, made sure they were level on the bike and tightened, then went back to the side bracket and tightened everything. Hope that helps!
