I hated my small, old butter dish, so I got this nice big one. Wasn't sure if it would fit - it's large, holds a stick of salted, one of unsalted butter and then some - but it does, perfectly in my Fridge's door compartment.The finish is heavy porcelain, so while I'm (reasonably) leery of metal knives chipping it, the real test will be my destructive GF (only person I've ever seen punctuating a comment by beating a high quality Japanese knife's razor edge on a cast iron frypan's lip), so while the wooden top is well made, a nice touch and fits well - I guess it's for cheese? If it'll break from repetitive, careless dropping, she's got that covered. So far so good. Two drops and no apparent damage !But seriously, I'd rather pay a bit more, get something that lasts and I did.
