Runners who want a wide toe box

Okay, I have to admit I have a hard time finding shoes that don't give me problems during or after my run. Blisters, black toenails, lace pressure on the top of the foot, you name it. So I decided to start the elimination process until I found a shoe that worked even after trying multiple sizes of the same shoe. Well I am happy to report that I have found my perfect shoe in this New Balance Fresh Foam. I wear size 8 1/2 casual shoes and found I needed a size up and the width is 9 1/2. The toe box has the most room of any shoe I've tried (Avia, Asics, Brooks) and the extra width gives me even more toe room. I tried the shoes in 9 wide and they were too narrow, the 9 1/2 regular didn't give me as much toe box as I would like but the 9 1/2 wide was the perfect answer with minimal heel slip. To avoid heel slippage I use the heel lock lace and tie method (many examples on YouTube) which also prevents the laces from unraveling even with a single knot. Who knew?! As a side note to prevent black toenail syndrome I have always worn gel caps on my hammer toes but have since (You-tube) learned how to tap a problematic KT toe and it has been an absolute blessing and no gel cap was required. . We hope this review helps you decide on your next pair of running shoes, and even if you're not a runner, the foot comfort is mind-blowing! Keep moving and stay in shape.
