Great hardware, bad software

I bought this phone because it's one of the few high end Android phones with a headphone jack and a memory card slot. Overall the phone works, overall the hardware is great except for the lack of a zoom lens on the camera and the notch and rounded corners that waste display real estate. Software is where this phone really falls short. Previous LG phones had a software option to prevent apps from drawing in the notch, which this phone lost, making games look awful with a huge black eyesore on a bright screen. There is also a lot of malware, most of which are hidden as system apps that don't even show up in the regular list of installed apps. They also have their usually bad clones of stock Android apps (Phone, Messages, etc.) by default, as well as oddly organized settings pages. I'm getting constant crashes on the Play Store even after a factory reset. It's a bad experience and I can understand why LG hasn't had success with phones over the past few years. They try to do all the annoying things that Samsung does and they don't do them as well as Samsung. With a little knowledge of Android and ADB, most of these issues can be fixed, but the locked bootloader (no unlock option) on these carrier-enabled phones means some things (like poor notch handling) can never be fixed. At least Wi-Fi calling seems to be working correctly on T-Mobile. Overall at these sale prices this is a great phone for the money if you don't mind fiddling with the software to get the most out of it.
