Review on πŸš— Spectre Performance - SPE-5754 Distributor Advanced Curve Kit by Richard Rosa

Stick with Mososo 72300 or Accel 31041

Spectra 5754: Maybe I have two bad kits. There seem to be two in stock so I ordered two to have a spare on hand. one is coming soon so i started installing the one i got. Note that the baseplate and weights are "stamped" not cut, so the area where the baseplate and weights rub is rough and uneven with a slight protrusion. - instead of nice and smooth - I do not like. Let's install it anyway. Difficulty installing the base plate. Compared to the Moroso 72300 base plate I was replacing, I found that the hole spacing (for the pins) was about 1/64 inch too big. Using the Moroso 72300 baseplate as a guide and attaching to the Spectra 5754 baseplate, I re-drilled the holes. Okay, done, now it's time to mount the bushings, weights and springs. .Uh-huh The kit should contain a base plate, two weights, tr. ee sets of springs (light, medium, heavy) and two sets of bushings (two straight and two T-shaped). There are three straight sockets and one T-shaped socket in this set. I need two T shaped ones. After several hours of work and trying to modify this crap to make it work I had to reset the old Moroso 72300 - not happy. The second set came a few days later. This time, before I even opened it up, I looked through the plastic and I could see it was pretty much the same as the first set - three straight sockets and a "T" type. A difference to the 1st set are the three sets of springs. , holes are off. I don't install this crap. I decided to get Starrett's micrometer and check other "tolerances". other weight = 0.111 inch. (Note: I'm not sure how unbalanced or how heavy the load on the distributor will be when weights of unequal thickness are rotated around it, but I don't know.) Gold spring thickness = 0.020 inch. .Silver nib thickness = 0.032 inch. Bronze spring thickness = 0.032 inch. All feathers are folded sixfold. Weight = 0.112". Gold nib thickness = 0.020". Silver nib thickness = 0.032" Bronze nib thickness = 0.020". I could take a base plate, a .115" weight from each set, a T-sleeve from each set, and a set of springs and made a set out of the two I bought. Wow! Yes, that's right. Conclusion: I spent a lot more time than it's worth, so do yourself a favor at my expense: use Moroso 72300 or Accel 31041 - even edges and well-placed holes.
