Review on Case Logic LARI115 Hudson Backpack by Jennifer Witcofski

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Fun, stylish, well built BUT wrong color, uncomfortable straps and bigger than expected.

This is the second Case Logic backpack I have owned. The first was pretty good, but the strap and webbing started to snap after a year of daily use, rendering the bag unusable after two years. Not bad, but not great either. Case Logic is clearly trying to break into the mid-range laptop bag market with this backpack. It's better designed and twice the price of my previous one. It also comes with a 25-year warranty against bad materials, which is evident from the build quality, which appears to be high. Only the old Jansports with a lifetime guarantee can top that. The design is pretty slim, but it still fits a 15.2 x 10.5 x 1.2 inch laptop (and it could probably be a bit bigger since the bag is actually 19 inches high (and 11 inches wide) and 6 inches material is supposed to be very water resistant (which it actually is - I'd risk my computer in a downpour) and quite stylish. So why only three stars? Well, three reasons. Firstly, as others have pointed out, the backpack i received was a different color than the pictures. It's a much darker olive green with red straps and a cream base. The inside is the same color as this picture outside. If you don't want it to be too low, it sits high on your shoulders. It's a bit annoying when commuting. The zippers are terrible: there's a front pocket with a flimsy zipper. In the main pocket the most annoying protection system imaginable : lid with valve has two straps that have to be passed through plastic loops and then snapped. There is a drawstring in the valve cover that you have to pull to get the valve to close, but it doesn't really stop water from entering the bag. Inside the main pocket there's a large padded pocket, a small (unlined) tablet pocket and an even smaller zippered mesh pocket for things you want to have close at hand, but don't mind opening and closing the two buckles release by pulling the cord . , and Opening Blitz for! At the very least, they should be hard for pickpockets to get to. I wish this bag was a little more compact, color matched to the photo and didn't have such a cumbersome locking mechanism.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Anything I can add
