This is of course an Oculus Link extension and the manufacturer has warned that other use cases (devices) may not work properly. However, when I saw the tested protocols, I was confident that it could work as a general-purpose USB-C extender โ at least for the price ($25 at the time), there wasn't much risk in trying it myself. .I don't even own an Oculus (waiting for a better dollar price) but I'm an enthusiastic IT guy who constantly needs the next breakthrough. The 20ft USB-C host/device cable is a huge improvement, especially considering the USB 3.1 (BLUE USB connector) has a maximum length of 16.5ft. The new USB-C protocol carries much more information and can support other sub-protocols including Display Port++, Device Charging (PD) and wired Ethernet to name a few. This has drastically reduced the distance factor of standard USB-C. The standard (new) USB-C host/device cable is 3 or 6 feet long. My experience with USB devices in the past has shown that I can use an adapter to daisy chain two USB cables, but the third one will cause too many problems. large losses that degrade the connection with the host. This is not possible with USB-C. There is simply too much information on the cable to daisy chain. So, the new USB-C protocol forces users to keep their devices very close to their hosts. This is certainly true for Oculus, but also for other situations - think a PC with 2 (or more!) monitors or a game controller that needs to be tethered to the console. This limitation has been fixed! I have tested this extension on several devices: - Various simple devices like keyboard/mouse combos from Logitech, Microsoft and Apple. - Webcams from Logitech, Microsoft, Cisco, Polycom and some third-party cameras. (Most have reverted to USB 3.1, but the protocol is backward compatible with version 1.) I tested native USB-C end-to-end compatibility on high-end Poly (Polycom/Plantronics) video conferencing equipment. Specifically, Poly P15, P21, X30, and X50 devices. In all 4 cases I connected the Poly device to the USB-C port on my latest Lenovo laptop and everything worked quite well, with the highest possible resolution and perfect clarity. These devices transmit multiple streams simultaneously: program audio (what you hear), microphone audio (what you say), camera signal (your headshot). There weren't any issues with dropouts or resolutions etc. I didn't test things like PD (Power Delivery) nor did I connect them through a breakout box (the things like ethernet ports, USB hub, VGA, HDMI and/or DP). ). Realizing that this device can be used in many other cases, I immediately bought another one and am considering buying a few more to have on hand. I have to say I am impressed with this product which makes my office space feel less cramped and solves many cable issues in any environment with ease!
