Review on Olympus Stylus Digital 2 7 Inch Red by David Turner

Revainrating 4 out of 5

IT WORKS AS IT WAS DESIGNED.

I see a lot of reviews of this product from 'photographers' yapping about ISO settings and blah blah blah. That's the deal. If you're such a pro, why use a hundred dollar camera? For all you curtain jockeys revisiting hundred dollar cams, STOP PLAYING WITH THE SETTINGS! I bought a Stylus Tough 3000 AT PRICE to replace an aging Stylus 1030 SW. The 1030 SW is three years old and believe me it has been used in and out of pools, salt water, sand, drops etc. I've never taken it to Olympus for waterproofing so I won't be submerging this camera in water again, but I've been doing this for almost three years and it's still working and I haven't hesitated to take it rain or wet weather. I gave it to my daughter, she loves it. Auto adjustment produces great shots if you know how to use focus. He still takes great pictures. I'm a bit disappointed that there isn't a retractable lens cap like the Stylus 1030, but I don't have much time and I've never seen anything bad happen to this part. However, I'm used to using the focus function on my old 1030 and this is very similar. I like it. When used properly, it takes clear photos in a variety of scenarios. When it arrived in the mail, my daughter and I did a test run in the shallow waters around my hometown. I took underwater photos of various things at a depth of just a few meters. I took several shots in macro and super macro mode, normal mode, underwater and in daylight, with and without flash, with different flash settings. It was partly cloudy giving me the opportunity to photograph my daughter, wildlife etc in full sun in shady or sunny conditions. We spend the day hiking, playing in the sun and taking photos. The camera stayed in my pocket even as I roamed my stomach. Normally I wouldn't swim with him all day. I just gave it a test run basically to make sure it lasted its lifespan as advertised so I could send it back if needed. The battery is smaller and I don't like that. I don't mind charging it via USB as others have complained. I'm lucky enough to have USB adapters for everything, but I can plug them into my car, my computer, someone else's computer, the wall, etc. It doesn't charge that fast, but ok. It's a hundred dollar camera. You can also easily and inexpensively purchase chargers for these batteries. Buy an extra battery or two if you plan on using it all day. The Stylus Tough 3000 has more internal memory than the 1030 SW so I was happy with that, but there was a limit to the number of shots I could take. on topic. However, it lasted about 75 shots on the 12MP setting, which I don't usually use. Normally I would use 5MP on a 1030 SW, I will probably continue to use 5MP because even that is way too big to print from almost any regular printer at it's native resolution and it's way bigger than most computer screens. Why waste space if you don't use it for professional work? In any case, the internal memory is not bad, even considering that the firmware occupies most of it. I have a 16 GB SDHC card in preparation. Apparently the fillings lasted a day. It turned out that out of the 75 or so images I had taken, about 3 were unusable and blurry, maybe ten of them were just about acceptable on most computer screens and had various anomalies and such, but the rest were brilliant. . If you factor in the human factor (which is a BIG factor in these reviews) I think it's pretty impressive for a hundred dollar waterproof camera. I have a decent monitor (23 inch) and they look great on it. I have photos all over my facebook and such. People comment on how great the pictures are from both Olympus cameras I've used. also automatic settings for the day. What's great is that it has different automatic settings for different scenarios. It even has the ability to stitch multiple shots together into one giant panorama, even a 360-degree pan. I tried that and no I didn't get it right but if I did it would be a great picture. I just had to figure out what to do, that's all. After reviewing the file, I saw where I went wrong and was able to easily create beautiful panoramic shots. now. I haven't used the video yet, but on my 1030 SW the video isn't very good. Not good at all. However, I saw a video online that was taken with the Stylus Tough 3000 and I was quite impressed. Don't expect any different results from this camera. My newest Olympus is still abused and takes good pictures after more than thirty hours. uh yes I'm more impressed with the images this new one creates. I just hope it proves as strong as the previous one. I see no immediate reason why this shouldn't be.
