I tried these out for a rough sanding application on uneven wood surfaces out of a CNC mill. Tulip poplar, which is not a particularly hard wood. When a rotary tool cuts against a certain grain orientation, it will produce wood fiber "hairs" on the off-grain side. I have used wire brushes on a rotary tool in the past with great results to remove hairy fibers from the piece. These rotary brushes, while cheap, are worth next to nothing. The picture I've posted shows a brush after about 3 min of careful abrasion. The wires are not really attached to anything but a light pressure from the plates. A similar brush from Dremel has lasted 10-15x longer with the same sanding. Quality brushes wear from the end not the center. There were long pieces of wire brush flying off of these things.I won't buy it again because it is wasteful to support a crummy product.
