Broken office electronics

This cartridge (Black XL) exploded in my husband's hands when he was trying to remove the orange plastic part attached to the cartridge. We ruined his boots and pants, the wood floor in our back room, and part of the wall. It took over an hour to clean up and try to remove as many ink stains as possible. The attached picture shows the residual dirt in our sink when we were cleaning.
