Beware of this product

This VSTM OBD II Memory Saver Cable has a cigarette lighter plug on one end that plugs into another vehicle's battery or power port. The other end is an OBD-II male connector that plugs into an OBD-II socket on the vehicle, usually under the dash. The OBD-II system uses 16 pins in the receiver, with each pin assigned to a specific function via the vehicle's ECU (a very expensive component). Pin #16 is for the 12V power supply to the system. This is the pin where the 12 volt power supply should be connected. But the VSTM wire routes 12 volts to pin #9, which is known as the Monitor Select designation and is used by various companies to perform various tasks through the car's ECU. I explain this statement in the hope that the manufacturer of the product will read it. On three of my private vehicles, applying 12 volts to pin #9 will damage the ECU at great cost. I was warned to test the VSTM cable before connecting it to my machine which is why I found an issue with this product. I contacted the company who responded promptly and said they would send me another cable. The second cable arrived and upon testing found that it also conducts power to pin #9. I hate to think what would happen to one of my machines if I connected the VSTM cable as shown in the instructions . The VSTM cable looks well built, but either there is a serious quality control issue in the manufacturing process or the designers of this product have no idea what they are dealing with. Anyway, as an experienced car technician, I now have two scrap parts that don't fit in my tool box. Be careful with this product! Update: July 8, 2019 I have already stated that this company responded to my complaint in a timely manner. They sent me another cable but that was defective too. When I informed them about this they gave me a full refund for the product. It is a pity that the product they sell is of poor quality because when all is said and done the company has done a great job of meeting customer needs.
