Review on πŸ’‘ Wago 221 413 LEVER NUTS Conductor Connectors: Secure and Efficient Electrical Connections by Jason Dahlkemper

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I'm just a fan of high-quality devices

I didn't get them for free to test at first - I paid for them out of my own pocket and have no connection with the manufacturer WAGO or theirs subsidiaries. I will copy and paste this review to other WAGO connector pages just so you know I am not a bot or scammer. I'm just a fan of good gear. I have ordered 2, 3 and 5 wire WAGO connectors and use them extensively in my home and work projects. Very easy to use, I don't have to remember which nut color goes with which AWG, and most importantly, they not only connect well and solidly, but also pack very well into junction/junction boxes. I hate wrestling with wire nuts trying to fit them into junction boxes, especially since many new electronic switches are much larger than old toggle switches. They also make wire removal and replacement easier. Many electricians in the US vilify these connectors, equating them with other less reliable connectors or using cutouts on switches. I am not an electrician but in over 20 years I have received a lot of electrical/electronics education, have worked extensively with electrical/electronics both personally and professionally and am very familiar with the National Electrical Code and the National Fire Code and I am confident that I can identify a secure and reliable connection. Besides, I don't want my house to burn down. They are UL, ABS and CSA listed and meet NEC requirements. I have also done safety and electronics certifications in the EU and Australia/New Zealand. Their tests and standards are much stricter than ours, and WAGO has been certified and in use in both areas for many years. Two precautions: 1) Make sure the locking lever is fully installed and visually check if the cable is properly installed. The case is transparent, the wires are visible and the connection can be checked with a multimeter through the small sensor terminals. 2) Lots of fakes pop up on eBay and elsewhere - make sure you buy genuine WAGOs. and not fake.

Pros
  • Convenient operation and less operating effort thanks to the familiar orange levers
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
