First I have an 02 BMW E39 with Business Radio without DSP. If you have a DSP, just buy the necessary adapter to save yourself the headache! This radio is AWESOME for the price you pay. I've had it installed for about a month now and here are my pros and cons: Pros: -OEM look! Aesthetically, it blends in very well with the rest of the BMW interior. -Keys. Having physical buttons to return to the home screen and other sources is far better than just relying on the touchscreen. User friendliness. If you've ever used a tablet or smartphone, you'll have no trouble navigating this device. I'm an Apple fan, but I have to say that the layout of this Android-based device is nice and fluid. Speaking of Apple.-CARPLAY. This was absolutely necessary because in my other car it was no longer possible to go back to the standard user interface. FYI, you need separate key AND download APK to use Carplay/Android Auto function. Because it's an Android tablet that doubles as a radio, you have tons of customization options and more. I've seen a full UI built on top of them and it's pretty neat. There are many more pluses, but I don't want to write everything. Cons: - Installation. I'm well versed when it comes to car audio/video installation and this experience helped me master it. Unfortunately, the instructions that come with it aren't very good, and combined with the way BMW arranged things, it got even worse. Overall I would say it took about 2 hours from start to finish to install nice clean hidden wiring but ymmv.-apk for carplay. It's more of an annoyance than a real scam, but as we said, you need a key and you have to go to the website to get the APK. The first few times the site wouldn't load for me so this became an area of frustration but as I said I was able to find a workaround thanks to a good Google search. Installing the APK is very easy and you will need a USB stick to download the file to your device. Backup camera. So I'm waiting for my freebies to install a rear camera, but the problem is that it doesn't install every time I play music or call, but turns off when I put reverse gear on. a little annoying, but yeah, back up and you can forget you're hearing anything until you get back in the car or park. I will update this if it changes after receiving the camera. Overall, this is a very affordable head unit that enhances my car's interior without making it look cheap or crappy. After a month of use, it still works flawlessly and keeps all apps up-to-date via the Google Play Store. I highly recommend this device and will keep this brand in my sights from now on.
